More than 13 lakh employees risk losing their August salary if they fail to comply with the state government's directive to declare their movable and immovable assets by August 31.
The state have more than 17.88 lakh government employees but only 26 percent have declared the assets on the government portal Manav Sampada, NDTV reported.
Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said only those who meet the August 31 deadline would be paid for the month, the report said.
"This measure aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the government. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said minister Danish Azad Ansari was quoted as saying by the report.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma criticized the government move. "Why wasn’t this introduced in 2017? The Yogi Adityanath government is on the defensive, realising their employees are corrupt. This is just a follow-up because they couldn’t implement it earlier," Verma said.
